I almost forgot about Valentine’s day! I hope all of you are having a wonderful evening with your loved ones, and soaking in all of the cheesiness. It’s a holiday filled with kitschy pink and red hearts, too much chocolate, and terrible commercials. Just go with it.
Roscoe and Emma wish you a Valentine’s day full of cuddles and snuggles.
Okay…you caught me. I just needed an excuse to post pictures of my pups. They’re in the snuggling spirit.
Dear readers… I have a confession. I hoard butter wrappers and a few other things most people consider to be garbage. Now, don’t go turning me in to the reality T.V. networks just yet. I promise you that there are indeed applications for all of these items aside from making me sound like a crazy person.
Whomever coined the phrase “waste not want not” really knew what they were talking about. If you’re willing to relegate a section of your freezer to storing a few things, you can save yourself a significant amount of money, improve some of your recipes and reduce your waste. Sounds like a win-win-win to me.
Okay my lovely and wonderfully patient readers. I have another chocolate and peppermint post. Yes, another one. As if the peppermint bark and the chocolate candy canes weren’t enough…..I bring you – peppermint bark lollipops. If this blog were your only source of nutrition, you would probably have scurvy by now. My bad, I promise I’ll start posting real, nourishing food again next week. You see, my dessert making skills are somewhat limited, BUT I am really good at melting chocolate (yay microwave). Being messy with melty chocolate is pretty fun – so naturally, I bought a 10 pound bag of chocolate chips from our local wholesale mart in some sort of weird Christmas shopping hysteria. Naturally.
Sangria with cognac really sneaks up on you with the alcohol content. It tastes fruity, a little sweet, and pretty innocent – then BAM you’re wondering when walking became so precarious, and ditching your sexy party heels for some mismatched socks. Just me….? This is a sangria of the sneakily-strong variety, and perfect for sharing with friends.
We usually double this recipe because wine is pretty popular ’round these parts (my apartment), and the pitcher is drained quickly when we have guests. It tastes great with everything, but pairs spectacularly with Spanish style food and anything grilled.
Have you ever been duped by clever fast food marketing? I have, and it pissed me off. This specific chain (**cough*Arby’s*cough**) had an ad around for a while touting “fresh deli sandwiches!” In need of a quick lunch, I grabbed one and tried it out. Long story short, this mother-shut-yo-mouth was nearly 900 calories. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? Is the bread made of sugar and lard? Truly mind boggling.
I am generally very mindful of what I put in my body, and it seemed to me that an innocent looking sandwich on wheat bread was a safer call than the faux processed meat + liquid cheese options. After googling the nutrition, I found out how very wrong I had been. I began to wonder how many people before me made the same mistake assuming they had made a decent choice. A great many I’m sure, or they wouldn’t still be selling them.
